“Rubens Barn fully lives up to all the other reviews. We had a wonderful stay here and my children adored having the upstairs bedroom to themselves. The owner had also put a lot of thought into keeping them happy, even putting out a couple of child scooters for them to use on the adjacent tennis court...”

“Rubens Barn is an utter delight; 5 star romantic seclusion” (TripAdvisor 5 stars)
Rubens Barn is simply wonderful. A luxurious barn situated in the beautiful countryside of West Sussex. We had a tremendous stay on a Friday and Saturday night. The owners Rob and Rachel are incredibly charming and helpful. The barn was beautifully decorated with many special touches such as fresh flowers, White Company toiletries and a delicious selection of breakfast/brunch items from Waitrose. There is a well surfaced tennis court attached to the barn and panoramic views of the countryside. The barn has three bathrooms, one with a roll top bath and ambient blue lighting for true relaxation. The linen and towels are fresh, clean and sumptuous. The king size bed was extremely comfortable. In addition, there were two single beds upstairs which we did not use but they looked clean and comfortable with very nice bed linen. The Star and Garter in nearby East Dean, which was recommended by Rob and Rachel has a wonderful seafood menu and excellent service. Part of the barn's charm is that it is quite remote so a car is recommended. We will definitely be returning soon.

“Five star luxury in a country cottage” (TripAdvisor 5 stars)
A group of four friends stayed at Rubens Barn for three nights, but wished we had stayed longer. The cottage is beautifully furnished, modern and stylish, with all mod cons. Everything felt brand new, and of a very high standard. We were delighted to discover little extra touches everywhere; plentiful thick, fluffy towels and robes, White Company toiletries, delicious food and drinks in the kitchen, flowers in the bedroom, even a mobile phone to use during your stay. The cottage is bigger than it looks, and has three bathrooms, one of which has a beautiful, deep roll-top bath. Flat screen TV and Blu Ray player ensured that you didn't need to leave the cottage if you so wished.

When we did venture out however, the numerous walks starting right at the back door enabled you to walk up an appetite, which allowed us to fully appreciate the food at the local pub. I would definitely stay at Rubens Barn again and will heartily recommend to others.

“Fantastic luxurious retreat” (TripAdvisor 5 stars)
Given my addiction for expensive hotels, I've found it difficult in the past to find a self-catering place that I like... but Rubens Barn combines the peace and independence you want from self-catering with the high standards you might expect in a luxury hotel.

The barn is tastefully decorated in white and duck-egg blue. A spacious king on the ground floor is serviced by two shower rooms and the twin room on the first floor has its own bathroom with roll top bath. All three bathrooms have White Company toiletries and many many fluffy white towels (and lovely fluffy dressing gowns - phew). The open plan living area has a really good quality flat-screen TV with FreeSat. The kitchen is well-equipped too (including a dishwasher). The owners (who were friendly but not intrusive) seemed to have thought of everything... the kitchen was pre-stocked with milk, yoghurts, fruit, ham, cheese, bread, croissants, cereal etc., and free WiFi is provided along with a mobile phone for use during the stay.

The local area has great walks... well... according to the visitors' book. It was a bit cold for us but we did manage a few strolls along to the local village where the Star & Garter pub served a fantastic three course lunch menu with traditional favourites and some great fish specials.

I'd highly recommend this for a relaxing and romantic getaway. It's close enough to London for a long weekend but far enough away to be a proper escape. And next time we might even manage to get out for proper walk, a visit to the gym at Goodwood (the owners can arrange temporary membership) or a game of tennis on the private court...
